Episode 60: Becoming a community giving ambassador

Many of us know community giving projects. They are community-wide invitations for people to give to their favorite nonprofits, usually on one day or in one period of time. Our colleagues in Washington State may know GiveBig. In this episode, Sarah tells Nancy about the story of her local community giving project, Give Methow, and how it has created giving ambassadors throughout the community. They talk about some of general lessons any nonprofit leader can learn from Give Methow and why it matters.

Question to reflect on before you listen:
What is your experience participating in community giving days?

Discussion questions:

  1. What resonated with you about this conversation? What would you like to take back to your organization?
  2. What do you think about this idea that as nonprofits, we need other nonprofits to thrive? How would you change how you approach fundraising if you went about it trying to lift up all nonprofits?
  3. How could you be a giving ambassador for your community?

Word of the week: Ambassador

What does the word “ambassador” mean to you generally? How does it relate to your role as a nonprofit leader in your community?
