Evaluation

Episode 15: Evaluation – Measuring What Matters

In this episode we talk about evaluation and how to measure what matters. With everything a nonprofit needs to do, evaluation is often an afterthought. Our funders expect us to gather data about what we do, so we count heads at our events or use surveys to get feedback. There are a few ways that we can better measure what matters for our organization, giving us the data we need to better tell our story.

Questions to reflect on before you listen:

How do you know now what difference you are making?

Discussion questions:

  1. What resonated with you about this conversation? What would you like to take back to your organization?
  2. If your board or staff put together a dashboard of three measures– outputs, outcomes, and long term change indicators, what would you seek to measure?
  3. What do you want to learn about your work over the next year? What data do you need to learn that?
