Episode 8: Events: What do we do now?

Many of us rely on events to raise money and build community. As we look ahead to the fall, we know that we can’t hold our favorite events as we have in the past. What to do?

In this episode, we talk about the three reasons we hold events: raise money, build community, and engage people in activities. We talk about what questions your staff and board can ask in determining whether or not to move your event online.

Questions to reflect on before you listen:

What events do you typically run in the fall? What is guiding your decision-making about how to move forward with these events?

Discussion questions:

  1. What resonated with you about this conversation? What would you like to take back to your organization?
  2. Think about your events. Why do you hold them? Are there reasons beyond raising money?
  3. We talked about thinking more broadly about events across time and space, how this could allow you to engage more people. How might you apply this idea to an event you are thinking about?
  4. Sometimes we need to stop doing events. Does your organization have an event that you would consider not doing?

Word of the Week:  Gather
What does “gather” mean to you and your organization right now?
